Mission
The White Mountain Conservation League (WMCL), a 503c organization, is a local action group dedicated to sustaining and enhancing the White Mountain ecosystems and communities. The spectacular White Mountain region provides habitat for hundreds of plant and animal species. The WMCL embraces and encourages stewardship of all components of the region’s diverse ecosystems and recognizes their value to our regional economic vitality and quality of life. The WMCL objectives of promoting natural resources stewardship and sustainability are achieved by active participation at all levels of land and wildlife management decision making to address environmental issues important to our membership and community.
We support:
- Forest thinning near communities to reduce risk of from fires.
- Forest restoration projects that strive to create near natural conditions.
- Environmentally sensitive industry that utilizes small diameter trees.
- Quality wildlife habitat, Endangered Species and game management.
- Wilderness and Wild & Scenic River designations.
- Inventoried Roadless Areas.
- Balanced access to our public lands.
- Quiet recreation opportunities such as hiking, biking and cross country skiing.
- Sustainable green industry.
- Solar and renewable energy.
- Recycling.
What we do:
- We engage in volunteer efforts with the Forest Service to maintain popular trails and encourage citizen action on issues that effect the quality of our forests and ecosystems.
- We seek to ensure that the beauty and opportunity we now have will be here for our children and our children's children.
